Wood Hollow Fire continues to rage in Sanpete County

FOUNTAIN GREEN, Sanpete County -- The Wood Hollow Fire, which started Saturday afternoon, continues to burn and has expanded to more than 10,000 acres, prompting evacuations in various parts of the county and has destroyed at least one building.

Fire officials confirmed to the Sanpete County Sheriff's Office that one building was destroyed by fire, but information about what kind of structure it was is not immediately available.

The Sanpete County Sheriff's Office has ordered the evacuations of Oaker Hills, Elk Ridge, Indian Ridge, Indianola, Panorama, Big Hollow and Hideaway Valley. These areas consist of U.S. 89 on the west and east sides from north end of Hill Top (near Milepost 289) to the county line on the north.

This area contains an estimated 359 permanent structures and 213 trailer/shed lots.

U.S. 89 north of Fairview is completely closed to the county line at mile post 297.

The American Red Cross has set up a reception center for evacuees at North Sanpete High School, 309 E. 700 South in Mt. Pleasant.

The Utah Division of Emergency Management has confirmed that FEMA has approved a Fire Management Assistance Grant to help with the firefighting costs of the Wood Hollow Fire. FMAG is not a disaster declaration. Instead, FEMA will reimburse 75 percent of eligible firefighting costs. Eligible firefighting costs may include expenses for field camps; equipment use, repair and replacement; tools, materials and supplies; and mobilization and demobilization activities. FMAG does not provide assistance to individual home or business owners and do not cover other infrastructure damage caused by the fire.
